Narrative:
Northbound, receiving radar advisories, passed over ZZZ VOR at 3500 ft and turned toward ZZZ2 airport (intended landing point). Controller asked that I call another sector controller (same facility) on another frequency. Upon doing so, next controller asked if I was aware of tfr ahead on course and if I had received a briefing on the tfr. I initially responded no (later informed him that I had a copy of the NOTAM with me). He offered either a vector to take me out 5 miles over the ocean or 20 miles inland with a climb to 4500 ft (the tfr was a 5 NM ring around ZZZ3 up to XXXX ft MSL). I took the inland vector. Either option was excessive to clear the tfr which I never entered. To resolve this: I should have asked previous controller for a change in altitude to 5500 ft MSL -- or he should have suggested it since he was familiar with area and tfr. Same for second controller.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN SMA PLT VIOLATED A TFR INVOLVING A LCL ARPT.
Narrative: NBOUND, RECEIVING RADAR ADVISORIES, PASSED OVER ZZZ VOR AT 3500 FT AND TURNED TOWARD ZZZ2 ARPT (INTENDED LNDG POINT). CTLR ASKED THAT I CALL ANOTHER SECTOR CTLR (SAME FAC) ON ANOTHER FREQ. UPON DOING SO, NEXT CTLR ASKED IF I WAS AWARE OF TFR AHEAD ON COURSE AND IF I HAD RECEIVED A BRIEFING ON THE TFR. I INITIALLY RESPONDED NO (LATER INFORMED HIM THAT I HAD A COPY OF THE NOTAM WITH ME). HE OFFERED EITHER A VECTOR TO TAKE ME OUT 5 MILES OVER THE OCEAN OR 20 MILES INLAND WITH A CLB TO 4500 FT (THE TFR WAS A 5 NM RING AROUND ZZZ3 UP TO XXXX FT MSL). I TOOK THE INLAND VECTOR. EITHER OPTION WAS EXCESSIVE TO CLR THE TFR WHICH I NEVER ENTERED. TO RESOLVE THIS: I SHOULD HAVE ASKED PREVIOUS CTLR FOR A CHANGE IN ALT TO 5500 FT MSL -- OR HE SHOULD HAVE SUGGESTED IT SINCE HE WAS FAMILIAR WITH AREA AND TFR. SAME FOR SECOND CTLR.
