Narrative:

Controller asked to slow and turn said 'cross cgi at FL270.' I pushed over to make restr and autoplt did not autolevel. Autoplt was disconnected and aircraft manually leveled at FL270. Overshot altitude some and missed restr slightly. This is first time in dash 700 series aircraft. I noted autoplt FMS system unable to handle situation of pushing over close to altitude of leveloff. B737-300/500 autoplts handle just fine. First officer reported he had observed 700 series less capable of pitch changes near leveloff. It appears dash 700 autoplt software less capable of slow, pitchover, autolevel/altitude acquire changes near altitude which is set in altitude alert box on FMC/MCP. In future, will not try to accommodate controller last min as I can in B737-300/500 series.
