Narrative:

Improper procedure followed during engine shutdown. I was the relief pilot on this particular flight. During engine shutdown and execution of the parking checklist, we noticed that the right engine was still running at a low RPM -- fuel flow even with the fuel cutoff switch in the off position. In attempting to shut down the engine, the captain elected to pull the right engine fire handle. Unfortunately, the first officer pulled the handle and fired the engine #2 fire bottle. Maintenance was called to the airplane. The captain wrote the problem up in the maintenance log. We discussed the problem with the maintenance personnel. The first officer performed a postflt walkaround. We then turned over the airplane to the maintenance department.
