Narrative:
On a visual approach to runway 19R at sfo, we were switched by ATC to sfo tower at about the FAF (we had been searching for airbus traffic going to the parallel runway). With tower we were cleared to land on runway 19R. Shortly thereafter, someone got a hot microphone on the tower frequency, all xmissions came over with a loud squeal. There was an aircraft holding between runways 19L&right. The captain ordered me to try and tune up another frequency on the second radio (I believe it was a back-up tower frequency). While I was 'heads down' messing with the radio, the captain said something to the effect that the other aircraft was crossing our runway. We did not hear it get cleared to cross due to the hot microphone problem. The captain asked if I thought we should go around and I said 'yes, let's go ahead and go around.' however, the crossing aircraft cleared our runway in plenty of time and the captain elected to continue the landing. Since there was no threat to safety, I did not call for another go around or take the controls since that may have led to confusion. There was no loss of separation.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: B737-300 CREW, INSIDE THE FAF AT SFO, LOST VHF COMS WITH TWR DUE TO A STUCK MIKE ON FREQ.
Narrative: ON A VISUAL APCH TO RWY 19R AT SFO, WE WERE SWITCHED BY ATC TO SFO TWR AT ABOUT THE FAF (WE HAD BEEN SEARCHING FOR AIRBUS TFC GOING TO THE PARALLEL RWY). WITH TWR WE WERE CLRED TO LAND ON RWY 19R. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, SOMEONE GOT A HOT MIKE ON THE TWR FREQ, ALL XMISSIONS CAME OVER WITH A LOUD SQUEAL. THERE WAS AN ACFT HOLDING BTWN RWYS 19L&R. THE CAPT ORDERED ME TO TRY AND TUNE UP ANOTHER FREQ ON THE SECOND RADIO (I BELIEVE IT WAS A BACK-UP TWR FREQ). WHILE I WAS 'HEADS DOWN' MESSING WITH THE RADIO, THE CAPT SAID SOMETHING TO THE EFFECT THAT THE OTHER ACFT WAS XING OUR RWY. WE DID NOT HEAR IT GET CLRED TO CROSS DUE TO THE HOT MIKE PROB. THE CAPT ASKED IF I THOUGHT WE SHOULD GO AROUND AND I SAID 'YES, LET'S GO AHEAD AND GO AROUND.' HOWEVER, THE XING ACFT CLRED OUR RWY IN PLENTY OF TIME AND THE CAPT ELECTED TO CONTINUE THE LNDG. SINCE THERE WAS NO THREAT TO SAFETY, I DID NOT CALL FOR ANOTHER GAR OR TAKE THE CTLS SINCE THAT MAY HAVE LED TO CONFUSION. THERE WAS NO LOSS OF SEPARATION.
