Narrative:
Picked up wrong paperwork for flight XXXY (paperwork for XXXZ). Arrived in operations 30 mins prior to departure. Flight package on desk. Flight XXXZ viewed the package, signed the release, went to the aircraft, prepared for departure. Realized after departure that I had the wrong paperwork as we were flight XXXY not XXXZ. I knew I was taking a -500 model from ewr. When I arrived at operations there was one of flight papers on table. I noticed the aircraft number was a '500,' assumed it was my papers and did not check flight number. Will not fail to check flight number in future. In many places operations writes in big numbers, flight number and gate on the release. This does not absolve me from duty to look at flight number, but is helpful.

Title: B737-500 CREW PICKED UP FLT PAPERS FOR A SIMILAR FLT NUMBER IN AN IDENTICAL ACFT TO THE SAME DEST.
Narrative: PICKED UP WRONG PAPERWORK FOR FLT XXXY (PAPERWORK FOR XXXZ). ARRIVED IN OPS 30 MINS PRIOR TO DEP. FLT PACKAGE ON DESK. FLT XXXZ VIEWED THE PACKAGE, SIGNED THE RELEASE, WENT TO THE ACFT, PREPARED FOR DEP. REALIZED AFTER DEP THAT I HAD THE WRONG PAPERWORK AS WE WERE FLT XXXY NOT XXXZ. I KNEW I WAS TAKING A -500 MODEL FROM EWR. WHEN I ARRIVED AT OPS THERE WAS ONE OF FLT PAPERS ON TABLE. I NOTICED THE ACFT NUMBER WAS A '500,' ASSUMED IT WAS MY PAPERS AND DID NOT CHK FLT NUMBER. WILL NOT FAIL TO CHK FLT NUMBER IN FUTURE. IN MANY PLACES OPS WRITES IN BIG NUMBERS, FLT NUMBER AND GATE ON THE RELEASE. THIS DOES NOT ABSOLVE ME FROM DUTY TO LOOK AT FLT NUMBER, BUT IS HELPFUL.
