Narrative:

Climbing out of tul en route to mci, we began experiencing continuous light chop with an occasional moderate chop. I called my 'a' flight attendant and told him to have the flight attendants stay seated. He said ok. Climbing through FL200, we began experiencing moderate turbulence. We reported the turbulence to mci center and asked them if they were aware of any other moderate turbulence reports in our area. He said the turbulence would last up to approximately FL280. We were never given any warning that this turbulence existed. I then asked mci center for an immediate descent to 16000 ft where another aircraft reported it smooth. We descended to 16000 ft, it smoothed out, and we continued to mci. After passenger were deplaned, my 'a' flight attendant told me that the 'B' flight attendant was going to 'situation' on our last leg from mci-mdw. I asked him why. He said she felt she had hurt her back in the moderate turbulence from tul-mci. I went to speak with her and she said she was going to 'try' to work the flight to mdw. I asked her if she felt she would be able to perform her duties in an emergency situation. She responded 'no.' at that point I decided to pull her from the flight. I pulled out my fom and made the required notifications per fom 9.6.7 -- accidents or incidents reports summary. Her parents live in mci, so she said she would go to their house for the night. It was my belief that she was asked by the company to see a company doctor while in mci. I have previously filled out a company irregularity report concerning this incident.
