Narrative:
My instructor and I were cleared to taxi to runway 19 at key field in meridian, ms (mei). We taxied to the end of the taxiway and did our run-up. After finishing the run-up I was going to taxi to the hold short line and radio tower control. Neither my instructor or I ever saw the hold short line. We realized we were on the displaced threshold, so we called tower immediately, they cleared us to take off and said they would log the pilot violation. I think the hold short line for runway 19 may be worn off or faded. In my event there were 2 pair of eyes looking for it, and it was not seen. It should probably be repainted. Callback conversation with air traffic person revealed the following information: an mei air traffic person revealed that, clear and visible, yellow hold short lines, along with red hold short signs (lighted at night) are located at both txwys A6 and A5. The taxiway A6 line and signs are located approximately 100 ft from the runway. It was also noted that taxiway a, the parallel taxiway, transitions the air guard ramp continuing northward intersecting taxiway A6. The taxiway A6 is depicted on the commercial chart as 'a.'
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A BE76 PLT AND INSTRUCTOR, WHILE TAXIING FOR TKOF AT MEI, TAXIED ONTO THEIR ASSIGNED RWY WITHOUT CLRNC.
Narrative: MY INSTRUCTOR AND I WERE CLRED TO TAXI TO RWY 19 AT KEY FIELD IN MERIDIAN, MS (MEI). WE TAXIED TO THE END OF THE TXWY AND DID OUR RUN-UP. AFTER FINISHING THE RUN-UP I WAS GOING TO TAXI TO THE HOLD SHORT LINE AND RADIO TWR CTL. NEITHER MY INSTRUCTOR OR I EVER SAW THE HOLD SHORT LINE. WE REALIZED WE WERE ON THE DISPLACED THRESHOLD, SO WE CALLED TWR IMMEDIATELY, THEY CLRED US TO TAKE OFF AND SAID THEY WOULD LOG THE PLT VIOLATION. I THINK THE HOLD SHORT LINE FOR RWY 19 MAY BE WORN OFF OR FADED. IN MY EVENT THERE WERE 2 PAIR OF EYES LOOKING FOR IT, AND IT WAS NOT SEEN. IT SHOULD PROBABLY BE REPAINTED. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH AIR TFC PERSON REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: AN MEI AIR TFC PERSON REVEALED THAT, CLR AND VISIBLE, YELLOW HOLD SHORT LINES, ALONG WITH RED HOLD SHORT SIGNS (LIGHTED AT NIGHT) ARE LOCATED AT BOTH TXWYS A6 AND A5. THE TXWY A6 LINE AND SIGNS ARE LOCATED APPROX 100 FT FROM THE RWY. IT WAS ALSO NOTED THAT TXWY A, THE PARALLEL TXWY, TRANSITIONS THE AIR GUARD RAMP CONTINUING NORTHWARD INTERSECTING TXWY A6. THE TXWY A6 IS DEPICTED ON THE COMMERCIAL CHART AS 'A.'
