Narrative:
On ground after cabin ready, but before motion of push, passenger left seat to go to the lavatory. Before flight attendants could notify cockpit, push had begun. FAA employee pointed out 'infraction' to flight attendants. I believe this situation was covered in air carrier operations manual. Another FAA employee in seat interrupted safety demonstration by summoning flight attendant to complain that volume was too low, causing flight attendant to call purser on phone and distracting other passenger. I believe that this kind of nit-picking during critical departure activities is detrimental to safety, and I suspect that they will write a report claiming my crew was derelict. Purser was top-notch in my opinion.
