Primary Problem | Aircraft |
Narrative:
It had been approximately 6 weeks since the aircraft was flown. I drained the gascolator and got a good fuel sample. Departed lzu for 20 mins of light aerobatics. 25 mins after takeoff and 8 mi southeast of lzu I called tower for landing, about 4 mi out I noticed the engine had a possible problem. I could not pinpoint that there was a problem, it just felt odd. At approximately 2 mi from the runway the engine dropped off to about idle power. Realizing I would not make the runway I notified the tower and landed on highway 316. The landing was uneventful and the aircraft and all people were uninjured. I thank the lord for that. Findings: a cadd painted steel gascolator bowl had rusted and filled the finger screen in the throttle body with rust, starving the engine of fuel.

Title: MEYERS 360 PLT DECLARED AN EMER ON A 2 MI FINAL DUE TO LOSS OF ENG PWR AND LANDED OFF THE ARPT ON A HIGHWAY WITHOUT DAMAGE TO THE ACFT, PROPERTY OR PERSONS.
Narrative: IT HAD BEEN APPROX 6 WKS SINCE THE ACFT WAS FLOWN. I DRAINED THE GASCOLATOR AND GOT A GOOD FUEL SAMPLE. DEPARTED LZU FOR 20 MINS OF LIGHT AEROBATICS. 25 MINS AFTER TKOF AND 8 MI SE OF LZU I CALLED TWR FOR LNDG, ABOUT 4 MI OUT I NOTICED THE ENG HAD A POSSIBLE PROB. I COULD NOT PINPOINT THAT THERE WAS A PROB, IT JUST FELT ODD. AT APPROX 2 MI FROM THE RWY THE ENG DROPPED OFF TO ABOUT IDLE PWR. REALIZING I WOULD NOT MAKE THE RWY I NOTIFIED THE TWR AND LANDED ON HWY 316. THE LNDG WAS UNEVENTFUL AND THE ACFT AND ALL PEOPLE WERE UNINJURED. I THANK THE LORD FOR THAT. FINDINGS: A CADD PAINTED STEEL GASCOLATOR BOWL HAD RUSTED AND FILLED THE FINGER SCREEN IN THE THROTTLE BODY WITH RUST, STARVING THE ENG OF FUEL.
