Narrative:
On departure out of cos, departure cleared us to 12000 ft. At the same time we had an aircraft emergency. Dialed in 14000 ft in altitude alerter. At 13000 ft, departure control told us to hold 12000 ft. We returned to 12000 ft and went back to cos for the airplane malfunction.

Title: A B727 CREW, DEPARTING COS, OVERSHOT ASSIGNED ALT DURING AN ACFT EMER. RETURNED TO COS DUE TO THE EMER.
Narrative: ON DEP OUT OF COS, DEP CLRED US TO 12000 FT. AT THE SAME TIME WE HAD AN ACFT EMER. DIALED IN 14000 FT IN ALT ALERTER. AT 13000 FT, DEP CTL TOLD US TO HOLD 12000 FT. WE RETURNED TO 12000 FT AND WENT BACK TO COS FOR THE AIRPLANE MALFUNCTION.
