Narrative:
My radios were not working when I tried calling the tower at detroit city airport. The cockpit was dark and I inadvertently put XXXX in place of 7600 on my transponder. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated he was on a 7-8 mi final when his communication radios failed. After many tries to contact tower failed, he attempted to squawk the lost communication code of 7600. Unknown to him, he squawked the wrong code, while continuing the approach to landing. While on the ramp, a pilot of another aircraft informed the reporter of tower's request to have him call them. This he did, in addition to calling metropolitan approach, who had forwarded their request for a call through det tower. Although ATC was not pleased with the reporter's actions, after their conversation, he felt no violations would be filed.

Title: A C182 PLT, ON APCH TO DET, SELECTED CODE XXXX INSTEAD OF 7600 WHEN HE LOST HIS COM RADIOS.
Narrative: MY RADIOS WERE NOT WORKING WHEN I TRIED CALLING THE TWR AT DETROIT CITY ARPT. THE COCKPIT WAS DARK AND I INADVERTENTLY PUT XXXX IN PLACE OF 7600 ON MY XPONDER. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED HE WAS ON A 7-8 MI FINAL WHEN HIS COM RADIOS FAILED. AFTER MANY TRIES TO CONTACT TWR FAILED, HE ATTEMPTED TO SQUAWK THE LOST COM CODE OF 7600. UNKNOWN TO HIM, HE SQUAWKED THE WRONG CODE, WHILE CONTINUING THE APCH TO LNDG. WHILE ON THE RAMP, A PLT OF ANOTHER ACFT INFORMED THE RPTR OF TWR'S REQUEST TO HAVE HIM CALL THEM. THIS HE DID, IN ADDITION TO CALLING METRO APCH, WHO HAD FORWARDED THEIR REQUEST FOR A CALL THROUGH DET TWR. ALTHOUGH ATC WAS NOT PLEASED WITH THE RPTR'S ACTIONS, AFTER THEIR CONVERSATION, HE FELT NO VIOLATIONS WOULD BE FILED.
