Narrative:
After having positioned and held on runway 25R at lax, I was cleared to take off as a saab 340 was 1/2 way down the runway. He had been cleared to take off from taxiway F on runway 25R. I hesitated a few seconds, and when I saw his rotation, I released the brakes and started to set takeoff power. Just before getting to the flex detent, tower canceled my takeoff clearance and said I wasn't fast enough. He needed to cross an aircraft holding between the runways. He (tower) asked if we could take off from where we were. The first officer and I discussed it, and agreed that since 'oe' flex temperature was for intersection F, and that we had stopped short of intersection F, that we could take off from there safely. Tower said it was his fault and he was sorry for the situation (or something like that). I hadn't rolled far as we were about 100-200 ft from taxiway F and had reached 20 KTS or so. I used light braking to stop. Brake temperatures were 110 degrees and less. While waiting, I made a PA announcement explaining the situation. We were then cleared for takeoff uneventfully.

Title: LAX LCL CTLR REPROVES A320 FLC FOR NOT INITIATING TKOF IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING AN SF34 OFF RWY 25R, ISSUING A TAXI CLR OF RWY FOR ANOTHER TAXIING ACFT.
Narrative: AFTER HAVING POSITIONED AND HELD ON RWY 25R AT LAX, I WAS CLRED TO TAKE OFF AS A SAAB 340 WAS 1/2 WAY DOWN THE RWY. HE HAD BEEN CLRED TO TAKE OFF FROM TXWY F ON RWY 25R. I HESITATED A FEW SECONDS, AND WHEN I SAW HIS ROTATION, I RELEASED THE BRAKES AND STARTED TO SET TKOF PWR. JUST BEFORE GETTING TO THE FLEX DETENT, TWR CANCELED MY TKOF CLRNC AND SAID I WASN'T FAST ENOUGH. HE NEEDED TO CROSS AN ACFT HOLDING BTWN THE RWYS. HE (TWR) ASKED IF WE COULD TAKE OFF FROM WHERE WE WERE. THE FO AND I DISCUSSED IT, AND AGREED THAT SINCE 'OE' FLEX TEMP WAS FOR INTXN F, AND THAT WE HAD STOPPED SHORT OF INTXN F, THAT WE COULD TAKE OFF FROM THERE SAFELY. TWR SAID IT WAS HIS FAULT AND HE WAS SORRY FOR THE SIT (OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT). I HADN'T ROLLED FAR AS WE WERE ABOUT 100-200 FT FROM TXWY F AND HAD REACHED 20 KTS OR SO. I USED LIGHT BRAKING TO STOP. BRAKE TEMPS WERE 110 DEGS AND LESS. WHILE WAITING, I MADE A PA ANNOUNCEMENT EXPLAINING THE SIT. WE WERE THEN CLRED FOR TKOF UNEVENTFULLY.
