Narrative:
At the gate in msp we received an ACARS message stating that our release had been amended to #2 and to call clearance delivery for our clearance. There was no indication of what the change was so I had the first officer ACARS dispatch. We didn't receive a response so the first officer went out to the gate and asked the agent if there had been a new release printed. She replied that she had not received anything. I then called dispatch via company radio. The dispatcher told me that there was some concern about the arrival area WX, but that it had changed and we could stay with our original route. I concurred and when we called clearance delivery they cleared us 'as filed.' we understood that to be 'abr J32 fmg MOD2' with no further questions. It appears there was a miscom between the pilots, dispatcher, and ATC. Corrective action would include a positive xfer of the new release whenever there is a change/amendment.
