Narrative:
While we were making our initial descent into gsp, sc, we received a TCASII TA. We searched for the traffic, but did not have the intruder in sight, and ATC did not advise us of the traffic. We observed the intruder converge on our position rapidly, and 10 seconds after the initial TA, we received an RA to 'descend, descend.' we complied immediately with the RA and descended 500 ft below our assigned altitude, and finally saw our intruder, a beech 1900, miss us by approximately 800 ft horizontal and 300 ft vertical. Once clear of conflict, we climbed back to 1600 ft, and informed ATC of the incident. Their reply was that there was a VFR traffic 500 ft off our altitude, to which I responded 'yes, but we experienced an RA, to which they simply replied 'roger.'

Title: DORNIER 328 FLC DSNDED IN RESPONSE TO A TCASII RA FROM A BEECH 1900 VFR AT AN ALT OF 500 FT ABOVE.
Narrative: WHILE WE WERE MAKING OUR INITIAL DSCNT INTO GSP, SC, WE RECEIVED A TCASII TA. WE SEARCHED FOR THE TFC, BUT DID NOT HAVE THE INTRUDER IN SIGHT, AND ATC DID NOT ADVISE US OF THE TFC. WE OBSERVED THE INTRUDER CONVERGE ON OUR POS RAPIDLY, AND 10 SECONDS AFTER THE INITIAL TA, WE RECEIVED AN RA TO 'DSND, DSND.' WE COMPLIED IMMEDIATELY WITH THE RA AND DSNDED 500 FT BELOW OUR ASSIGNED ALT, AND FINALLY SAW OUR INTRUDER, A BEECH 1900, MISS US BY APPROX 800 FT HORIZ AND 300 FT VERT. ONCE CLR OF CONFLICT, WE CLBED BACK TO 1600 FT, AND INFORMED ATC OF THE INCIDENT. THEIR REPLY WAS THAT THERE WAS A VFR TFC 500 FT OFF OUR ALT, TO WHICH I RESPONDED 'YES, BUT WE EXPERIENCED AN RA, TO WHICH THEY SIMPLY REPLIED 'ROGER.'
