Narrative:
Flight ZZZ to ZZZ1. Called engine maintenance controller indicating right engine oil filter message. The status message indicated an impending bypass condition. Their flight manual told crew to retard throttle until message goes away and land at nearest suitable airport. If message remained, shutdown the engine. I advised crew not to follow in-flight shutdown procedures since oil temperature, oil pressure, oil quantity and vibration indications were normal. Aircraft arrived with no incident. Message was intermittent indicating this was an indication only problem. Flight crew, dispatch, and duty manager concurred to continue to destination. I believe the flight manual is incorrect telling them to shut down engine without xchking and confirming. MEL has no relief for this condition, but maintenance manual 79-21-00 page 111 allows 25 hour relief for belt P switch change provided magnetic chip detectors and filter are checked for metal in screen. Flight manual does not differentiate between an EICAS or status message.

Title: A B757-200 CREW RPTS EICAS STATUS MESSAGE 'OIL FILTER' ON CONTINUOUSLY. MAINT CTLR ADVISES DO NOT SHUT ENG DOWN BUT MONITOR PRESSURE AND QUANTITY.
Narrative: FLT ZZZ TO ZZZ1. CALLED ENG MAINT CTLR INDICATING R ENG OIL FILTER MESSAGE. THE STATUS MESSAGE INDICATED AN IMPENDING BYPASS CONDITION. THEIR FLT MANUAL TOLD CREW TO RETARD THROTTLE UNTIL MESSAGE GOES AWAY AND LAND AT NEAREST SUITABLE ARPT. IF MESSAGE REMAINED, SHUTDOWN THE ENG. I ADVISED CREW NOT TO FOLLOW INFLT SHUTDOWN PROCS SINCE OIL TEMP, OIL PRESSURE, OIL QUANTITY AND VIBRATION INDICATIONS WERE NORMAL. ACFT ARRIVED WITH NO INCIDENT. MESSAGE WAS INTERMITTENT INDICATING THIS WAS AN INDICATION ONLY PROB. FLC, DISPATCH, AND DUTY MGR CONCURRED TO CONTINUE TO DEST. I BELIEVE THE FLT MANUAL IS INCORRECT TELLING THEM TO SHUT DOWN ENG WITHOUT XCHKING AND CONFIRMING. MEL HAS NO RELIEF FOR THIS CONDITION, BUT MAINT MANUAL 79-21-00 PAGE 111 ALLOWS 25 HR RELIEF FOR BELT P SWITCH CHANGE PROVIDED MAGNETIC CHIP DETECTORS AND FILTER ARE CHKED FOR METAL IN SCREEN. FLT MANUAL DOES NOT DIFFERENTIATE BTWN AN EICAS OR STATUS MESSAGE.
