Narrative:

We pushed back in a snow storm, that had covered the ramp in 6-8 inches of snow. Ground said to push and hold short of taxiway K, directly behind the tug. Even with chains made several attempts to push us to the hold short position, so we called maintenance for help -- either sand or drive or both. Once again I told the tug driver to hold short at taxiway K. The tug driver was told 3 or 4 times to hold short. We stopped, set brakes and were told that the aircraft had been hit by air carrier Y, MD11. We went back to the gate within mins and deplaned the passenger. There were no injuries or panic. It was orderly. I feel the company needs to go back to maintenance pushing the aircraft. Heavy falling snow made seeing and depth perception difficult!
