Narrative:
Tower issued us a clearance to cross runway 19L and hold short of runway 19R. I crossed runway 19L threshold and continued to taxi towards the threshold of runway 19R. I was preoccupied with checking the final approach course of runway 19R and had a momentary lapse of attention and taxied about 20 ft across the runway 19R hold line before stopping the aircraft. I had the copilot tell the tower that we had crossed the line and they issued a go around to a light twin on what seemed to be on a 2 mi final. After the go around by the twin, tower directed us to position and hold and the remainder of the flight progressed normally. I called the tower supervisor upon reaching sjc and they said that the controller had worked things out. End of story. In the future I will refocus my attention on the task at hand and not let distractions interfere with taxiing the aircraft. Supplemental information from acn 541476: after calling the tower controller on the phone, she said she hadn't even noticed that we were past the line.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B737 CREW, TAXIING FOR TKOF AT SNA, TAXIED PAST THE HOLD SHORT LINE.
Narrative: TWR ISSUED US A CLRNC TO CROSS RWY 19L AND HOLD SHORT OF RWY 19R. I CROSSED RWY 19L THRESHOLD AND CONTINUED TO TAXI TOWARDS THE THRESHOLD OF RWY 19R. I WAS PREOCCUPIED WITH CHKING THE FINAL APCH COURSE OF RWY 19R AND HAD A MOMENTARY LAPSE OF ATTN AND TAXIED ABOUT 20 FT ACROSS THE RWY 19R HOLD LINE BEFORE STOPPING THE ACFT. I HAD THE COPLT TELL THE TWR THAT WE HAD CROSSED THE LINE AND THEY ISSUED A GAR TO A LIGHT TWIN ON WHAT SEEMED TO BE ON A 2 MI FINAL. AFTER THE GAR BY THE TWIN, TWR DIRECTED US TO POS AND HOLD AND THE REMAINDER OF THE FLT PROGRESSED NORMALLY. I CALLED THE TWR SUPVR UPON REACHING SJC AND THEY SAID THAT THE CTLR HAD WORKED THINGS OUT. END OF STORY. IN THE FUTURE I WILL REFOCUS MY ATTN ON THE TASK AT HAND AND NOT LET DISTRACTIONS INTERFERE WITH TAXIING THE ACFT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 541476: AFTER CALLING THE TWR CTLR ON THE PHONE, SHE SAID SHE HADN'T EVEN NOTICED THAT WE WERE PAST THE LINE.
