Narrative:
Approached grand canyon national airport from the west. Attempted to get the ATIS before flying over the ranch, but could not understand it. The person that recorded it had a thick new england accent. Called the tower at the ranch and told them my position and intentions. The same person that made the ATIS recording was the controller. Anyway, he cleared me into the airspace and told me to call when 1/2 mi out. I called at 1/2 mi out, but the controller did not have me in sight. He asked if I had the old tower in sight, to which I replied 'affirmative.' he then told me to fly north of the tower, that I was cleared to the transient helipad. As soon as I landed at the helipad, the controller told me that he had not cleared me to cross the active runway and that I had cut off a dornier that made a go around. The dornier was on final when I landed at the helipad. I let my 2 passenger off, which I had picked up earlier that morning at grand canyon national. I was expecting the controller to call me to the tower, but he didn't. I had flown into grand canyon nation that morning with no problems with a different controller in the tower. The controller's thick new england accent made him difficult to understand.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A DORNIER ACR ACFT PERFORMS A GAR WHEN HIS LNDG RWY EXPERIENCES A RWY INCURSION BY A BELL 206B3 HELI LNDG AT GCN, AZ.
Narrative: APCHED GRAND CANYON NATIONAL ARPT FROM THE W. ATTEMPTED TO GET THE ATIS BEFORE FLYING OVER THE RANCH, BUT COULD NOT UNDERSTAND IT. THE PERSON THAT RECORDED IT HAD A THICK NEW ENGLAND ACCENT. CALLED THE TWR AT THE RANCH AND TOLD THEM MY POS AND INTENTIONS. THE SAME PERSON THAT MADE THE ATIS RECORDING WAS THE CTLR. ANYWAY, HE CLRED ME INTO THE AIRSPACE AND TOLD ME TO CALL WHEN 1/2 MI OUT. I CALLED AT 1/2 MI OUT, BUT THE CTLR DID NOT HAVE ME IN SIGHT. HE ASKED IF I HAD THE OLD TWR IN SIGHT, TO WHICH I REPLIED 'AFFIRMATIVE.' HE THEN TOLD ME TO FLY N OF THE TWR, THAT I WAS CLRED TO THE TRANSIENT HELIPAD. AS SOON AS I LANDED AT THE HELIPAD, THE CTLR TOLD ME THAT HE HAD NOT CLRED ME TO CROSS THE ACTIVE RWY AND THAT I HAD CUT OFF A DORNIER THAT MADE A GAR. THE DORNIER WAS ON FINAL WHEN I LANDED AT THE HELIPAD. I LET MY 2 PAX OFF, WHICH I HAD PICKED UP EARLIER THAT MORNING AT GRAND CANYON NATIONAL. I WAS EXPECTING THE CTLR TO CALL ME TO THE TWR, BUT HE DIDN'T. I HAD FLOWN INTO GRAND CANYON NATION THAT MORNING WITH NO PROBS WITH A DIFFERENT CTLR IN THE TWR. THE CTLR'S THICK NEW ENGLAND ACCENT MADE HIM DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND.
