Narrative:
I was called by air carrier to look at an MD80 with a 'spoiler do not use' light, and to put it on MEL. These automatic ground spoiler system, MEL book and logbook are different than air carrier Y's. I may have pulled the dc spoiler circuit breaker instead of the AC spoiler control circuit breaker. It pulled the spoiler handle down and held it down when circuit breaker is open. Not till after the aircraft left and doing the paperwork for the air carrier did I see as called out in the air carrier Y MEL to pull a circuit breaker which is the AC spoiler control. Doing third party maintenance on aircraft and system not totally the same as your company's can lead to this. With no training on air carrier aircraft system and paperwork gets us in hot water.
