Narrative:

Time: XA15 local frequency/altitude, nyc 5000 ft. ATC facility: nyc. Location: rbv korry 1 arrival. On the korry 1 arrival to lga in the area of rbv VOR, we encountered moderate to severe turbulence and had a lightning strike on the left wing. We were in continuous heavy to moderate turbulence for several mins. After the lightning strike our anti-ice system became unreliable to inoperative. This caused us to be unable to climb to higher altitudes to divert, our alternate was pit, 305 NM away. I had no choice but to declare an emergency to get the priority handling and vectors to try to stay out of the thunderstorms and freezing levels to find a place to land. We finally diverted to ewr. There were no injuries on the aircraft and we did not see any exterior damage to the aircraft after landing. During the emergency we encountered altitude fluctuations of at least 1000 ft and airspeed gains of as much as 60 KTS.

Title: MD80. DURING ARR ACFT ENCOUNTERED MODERATE TO SEVERE TURB. ACFT WAS STRUCK BY LIGHTNING CAUSING ANTI-ICING EQUIP TO MALFUNCTION. PLT DECLARED EMER, DIVERTED TO EWR.

Narrative: TIME: XA15 LCL FREQ/ALT, NYC 5000 FT. ATC FACILITY: NYC. LOCATION: RBV KORRY 1 ARR. ON THE KORRY 1 ARR TO LGA IN THE AREA OF RBV VOR, WE ENCOUNTERED MODERATE TO SEVERE TURB AND HAD A LIGHTNING STRIKE ON THE L WING. WE WERE IN CONTINUOUS HVY TO MODERATE TURB FOR SEVERAL MINS. AFTER THE LIGHTNING STRIKE OUR ANTI-ICE SYS BECAME UNRELIABLE TO INOP. THIS CAUSED US TO BE UNABLE TO CLB TO HIGHER ALTS TO DIVERT, OUR ALTERNATE WAS PIT, 305 NM AWAY. I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO DECLARE AN EMER TO GET THE PRIORITY HANDLING AND VECTORS TO TRY TO STAY OUT OF THE TSTMS AND FREEZING LEVELS TO FIND A PLACE TO LAND. WE FINALLY DIVERTED TO EWR. THERE WERE NO INJURIES ON THE ACFT AND WE DID NOT SEE ANY EXTERIOR DAMAGE TO THE ACFT AFTER LNDG. DURING THE EMER WE ENCOUNTERED ALT FLUCTUATIONS OF AT LEAST 1000 FT AND AIRSPD GAINS OF AS MUCH AS 60 KTS.
