Narrative:

Receiving vectors from ATC. Cleared to land runway 15L. Requested heading direction, given heading of 180 degrees. Subsequent to that, I was cleared to land on runway 15L. Upon turning final, I landed on what I assumed to be runway 15L, which is approximately the same length and width as taxiway F, assuming it was runway 15L. In reviewing the sequence of events, I realized I was in error and should have not assumed that when turning final, that I was on final for runway 15L. I should have made a more vigilant assessment of my location to the intended landing runway. While maintaining the heading of 180 degrees, the strong velocity of the winds may have contributed to the aircraft not being in a typical position on base.

Title: A C172 PLT LANDED ON A TXWY AT ISP.

Narrative: RECEIVING VECTORS FROM ATC. CLRED TO LAND RWY 15L. REQUESTED HDG DIRECTION, GIVEN HDG OF 180 DEGS. SUBSEQUENT TO THAT, I WAS CLRED TO LAND ON RWY 15L. UPON TURNING FINAL, I LANDED ON WHAT I ASSUMED TO BE RWY 15L, WHICH IS APPROX THE SAME LENGTH AND WIDTH AS TXWY F, ASSUMING IT WAS RWY 15L. IN REVIEWING THE SEQUENCE OF EVENTS, I REALIZED I WAS IN ERROR AND SHOULD HAVE NOT ASSUMED THAT WHEN TURNING FINAL, THAT I WAS ON FINAL FOR RWY 15L. I SHOULD HAVE MADE A MORE VIGILANT ASSESSMENT OF MY LOCATION TO THE INTENDED LNDG RWY. WHILE MAINTAINING THE HDG OF 180 DEGS, THE STRONG VELOCITY OF THE WINDS MAY HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE ACFT NOT BEING IN A TYPICAL POS ON BASE.
