Narrative:

Upon setting power for takeoff, 'left engine oil pressure' warning light illuminated. Discontinued the takeoff, taxied back to the beginning of the runway and performed an engine run-up to takeoff power and all indications checked normal. Taxied onto the runway and after takeoff power was set, the 'left engine oil pressure' light came on again. Aborted the takeoff and returned to the gate. Now, the reason for not going to the gate after the first abort was due to ambiguity of company policy on aborted takeoffs. Because the run-up was normal, we attempted a second takeoff. Note: found out afterwards that maintenance logbook entry was required after first abort.
