Narrative:

Intersecting runway operations ord. While taxiing into position to hold on runway 32R at ord, we were asked if we could accept an immediate takeoff and we accepted. Started our takeoff roll immediately. We heard tower instruct a aircraft call sign to go around and my first officer looked to his right and saw an rj going around from a low altitude. It appeared that if he had not gone around we might have met at the intersection of the 2 runways, he was landing runway 22R. Everything worked out fine but I am not sure why we were both given clearances. We were never made aware of the approaching aircraft to runway 22R. Happy the controller caught it. Supplemental information from acn 551478: we were ready and cleared. Maximum takeoff power takeoff and began roll. No remarks by tower about any short final traffic to any runway. Approximately 90--100 KTS tower was overheard sending an air carrier rj around, no runway included. Approaching intersection of runway 22R, first officer looked to runway 22R final and saw an air carrier Y rj on go around not within 500 ft continued takeoff without incident. We were never given notice by tower of any traffic on final to any runway at any time, also we never received any TCAS alert.
