Narrative:
We departed bna. Upon gear retraction the nose gear indicated down while the mains indicated up. I slowed the airplane to extend the gear. All indications were down and locked. The captain then retracted the gear. As the nose gear came up, we heard loud banging noises. All gear indications were up and locked. We discussed the situation with our dispatch, maintenance and referred to our QRH. We decided to divert to atl. Our original destination was mco. I declared an emergency with center. We requested a low fly-by in atl so tower could visually verify our gear was down. We were told it was. I then made a visual approach and uneventful landing to runway 9L at atl. We waited for a tug and were tugged to the gate where our passenger deplaned. The captain and I could not find anything wrong with the nose gear.
