Cruising at fl 340 en route from ZZZ to ZZZ1 the captain's outer windshield shattered. We were in contact with ZZZZ center, declared an emergency and were given vectors to (ZZZZ1) nearest suitable airport. We descended to FL240 checked terrain then to 15000. Landing was a non-event. Aircraft was fixed 13 hours later and we continued to ZZZ1 with no problems. (This is the 2ND md-11 windscreen incident that our company has had.) there is a problem.
