Narrative:
I entered downwind for runway 23 after airport advisory from unicom and was told one in pattern. I was descending out of altitude and was doing around 200 KTS on the GPS. I spotted the C172 and widened my pattern to give good separation and allow my speed to bleed down. I put my hand on the gear lever and waited for 130 KTS gear speed, while watching C172. As I turned base, first notch of flaps. Long final before landing check. 1/2 mi final, full flaps and quick check of instruments and gear and flaps. As we touched, had another sinking and when propeller stopped and was bent, I realized the gear was gone. Everything was done by the book and every procedure was followed. I believe the safety cover for the manual extension was moved and didn't allow gear to extend and lock down. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter indicated that the landing gear was down and he believed the safety cover and manual extension lever were out of position and caused the landing gear to unlock and collapse on touchdown.

Title: M20J PLT HAS LNDG GEAR COLLAPSE.
Narrative: I ENTERED DOWNWIND FOR RWY 23 AFTER ARPT ADVISORY FROM UNICOM AND WAS TOLD ONE IN PATTERN. I WAS DSNDING OUT OF ALT AND WAS DOING AROUND 200 KTS ON THE GPS. I SPOTTED THE C172 AND WIDENED MY PATTERN TO GIVE GOOD SEPARATION AND ALLOW MY SPD TO BLEED DOWN. I PUT MY HAND ON THE GEAR LEVER AND WAITED FOR 130 KTS GEAR SPD, WHILE WATCHING C172. AS I TURNED BASE, FIRST NOTCH OF FLAPS. LONG FINAL BEFORE LNDG CHK. 1/2 MI FINAL, FULL FLAPS AND QUICK CHK OF INSTS AND GEAR AND FLAPS. AS WE TOUCHED, HAD ANOTHER SINKING AND WHEN PROP STOPPED AND WAS BENT, I REALIZED THE GEAR WAS GONE. EVERYTHING WAS DONE BY THE BOOK AND EVERY PROC WAS FOLLOWED. I BELIEVE THE SAFETY COVER FOR THE MANUAL EXTENSION WAS MOVED AND DIDN'T ALLOW GEAR TO EXTEND AND LOCK DOWN. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR INDICATED THAT THE LNDG GEAR WAS DOWN AND HE BELIEVED THE SAFETY COVER AND MANUAL EXTENSION LEVER WERE OUT OF POS AND CAUSED THE LNDG GEAR TO UNLOCK AND COLLAPSE ON TOUCHDOWN.
