Narrative:

A B757 pwred out of gate Y at lihue airport while we were parked at gate Z. Because there was another B757 parked in gate X, the first aircraft was required to make a tight turn resulting in a hard jetblast impacting our aircraft, personnel, and equipment in the vicinity. Additionally, personnel and equipment adjacent to the terminal were hit. One ld-3 type baggage cart was blown approximately 20 ft across a taxiway/road which is used by airport vehicles. This problem could be avoided by B757 and similar type aircraft by pulling away from the terminal via tug. In this case, no one was injured. However, the potential for injury and damage is clearly evident.
