Narrative:

At approximately 1800 ft MSL after takeoff, we got a windshear alert. The captain responded to the alert as per the emergency procedure, which resulted in fire-walling both throttles. We returned to ewr and did a normal approach and landed 1700 pounds over the maximum landing weight. Due to the short time frame involved, the captain failed to declare an emergency [prior to] the overweight landing. The landing was smooth and uneventful.
