Narrative:
Our gate was closest to runway 18R, so I erroneously briefed the runway 18R SID. We were later assigned to runway 18L for takeoff. With lots of traffic on the ramp, I missed briefing the 'other' runway. As I initiated the turn required for runway 18R departure, the controller asked about our heading, and issued a turn back to the extended centerline of runway 18L. I am not aware of any conflict with any other aircraft. I believe this happened due to cockpit distrs of heavy ground traffic. A B737 captain was riding the jump seat. None of us caught the error.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B757-200 CREW, DEPARTING CLT, FOLLOWED SID INSTRUCTIONS PERTAINING TO ANOTHER RWY, THE PARALLEL.
Narrative: OUR GATE WAS CLOSEST TO RWY 18R, SO I ERRONEOUSLY BRIEFED THE RWY 18R SID. WE WERE LATER ASSIGNED TO RWY 18L FOR TKOF. WITH LOTS OF TFC ON THE RAMP, I MISSED BRIEFING THE 'OTHER' RWY. AS I INITIATED THE TURN REQUIRED FOR RWY 18R DEP, THE CTLR ASKED ABOUT OUR HDG, AND ISSUED A TURN BACK TO THE EXTENDED CTRLINE OF RWY 18L. I AM NOT AWARE OF ANY CONFLICT WITH ANY OTHER ACFT. I BELIEVE THIS HAPPENED DUE TO COCKPIT DISTRS OF HVY GND TFC. A B737 CAPT WAS RIDING THE JUMP SEAT. NONE OF US CAUGHT THE ERROR.
