Narrative:

While approaching gate under our guide man's direction, a ground support vehicle operated by maintenance crossed our path within approximately 5-10 ft of the nose of the aircraft. My concern is that this individual assumed that I was aware of his presence and that I would stop the aircraft in order for him to proceed. Both assumptions are wrong and a potential for serious damage and injury. I recommend that the head of maintenance remind his personnel of the importance of safety while operating on the ramp in proximity of aircraft.
