Narrative:

After pushback from gate and disconnected with brakes set, had an engine problem #1. Called the push crew to return to aircraft. On interphone told crew we would have to return to gate. Shut down both engines. First officer was coordinating with ground, dispatch, and company. Felt aircraft bump as if towbar was connected. Heard over headset 'we're ready,' released brakes. First officer was distracted on radio and said we are not cleared to gate yet. When I looked up aircraft was disconnected from towbar and rolling toward terminal. I applied brakes and stopped aircraft. Ground crew reconnected aircraft and said the tug had stalled and we contacted the right engine cowl with tug.
