Narrative:

Remarks regarding parking at night. After parking in atl, a disembarking passenger mentioned to me that he saw a hose reel of some type bump into the left engine. I looked on nacelle and found no damage. I asked at least 4 ground personnel if they saw anything, they had not. I decided to have maintenance check it on the overnight. They signed off the log that nothing was found. The next morning at departure, I made the effort to look again. I noticed a 1 1/2 inch yellow paint scuff on the bottom of cowling about 5 inches from nacelle lip. Maintenance checked again and found no damage to engine. Not sure of origin of paint. When I first looked at engine, the hose reel was located approximately 30 ft away from aircraft.
