Narrative:
After takeoff runway 16L at sea, at about 6000 ft AGL, #3 engine (normal indications up to this point) compressor stalled, then shut itself down. Egt in red, but no fire indications. Fuel dump started immediately and ATC informed of engine loss, fuel dump and declaring emergency. Normal clean up and checklists followed. Remainder of dump at 6000 ft MSL. Flight attendants and passenger briefed, company notified. Sent ACARS message to dispatch. Normal approach and landing at maximum landing weight. Taxied off runway. Aircraft inspected by fire crew. All ok, so continued to gate. Flight attendants and flight crew debriefed and we were all satisfied with the performance of entire crew and aircraft. Proper paperwork completed and turned in. (Company training had prepared us well for this emergency.)
