Narrative:
Conditions: wet runway, winds 160 degrees/8 KTS, maximum power takeoff from lck. Line of thunderstorms approaching from wsw at 15 NM. Light to moderate turbulence. Shortly after takeoff at approximately 500 ft AGL, the #1 thrust 'reverser light' illuminated accompanied with slight buffet and roll. Elected to shut engine down and return to lck for an emergency single engine landing. Immediately after takeoff we attempted to request a turn away from the rapidly approaching line of thunderstorms but were unable to communicate our request due to frequency congestion. I used my captain's authority/authorized and turned away from the WX and then proceeded to shut down the #1 engine. We were on a heading away from the WX for less than 3 mins before we were able to transmit our request for radar vectors for the eventual emergency landing.

Title: A WBD CARGO FLT DEVIATES FROM HEADING CLRNC ACCOUNT TSTM ACTIVITY AHEAD AND RETURNS TO DEP ARPT AFTER NOTING A REVERSER MALFUNCTION INFLT, 1 NM SW OF LCK, OH.
Narrative: CONDITIONS: WET RWY, WINDS 160 DEGS/8 KTS, MAX PWR TKOF FROM LCK. LINE OF TSTMS APCHING FROM WSW AT 15 NM. LIGHT TO MODERATE TURB. SHORTLY AFTER TKOF AT APPROX 500 FT AGL, THE #1 THRUST 'REVERSER LIGHT' ILLUMINATED ACCOMPANIED WITH SLIGHT BUFFET AND ROLL. ELECTED TO SHUT ENG DOWN AND RETURN TO LCK FOR AN EMER SINGLE ENG LNDG. IMMEDIATELY AFTER TKOF WE ATTEMPTED TO REQUEST A TURN AWAY FROM THE RAPIDLY APCHING LINE OF TSTMS BUT WERE UNABLE TO COMMUNICATE OUR REQUEST DUE TO FREQ CONGESTION. I USED MY CAPT'S AUTH AND TURNED AWAY FROM THE WX AND THEN PROCEEDED TO SHUT DOWN THE #1 ENG. WE WERE ON A HEADING AWAY FROM THE WX FOR LESS THAN 3 MINS BEFORE WE WERE ABLE TO XMIT OUR REQUEST FOR RADAR VECTORS FOR THE EVENTUAL EMER LNDG.
