Narrative:
We were instructed to change runways at the last min from runway 6 at teb to runway 1 and ultimately departed on runway 24. We were given the teb 5 departure for takeoff, but failed to reprogram FMS for runway 24 departure prior to takeoff. The departure calls for a climb ultimately to 2000 ft MSL from runway 24 and 3000 ft MSL from runway 1. We mistakenly set/left 3000 ft in the altitude preselector for a runway 1 departure. Our mistake was promptly corrected (noticed by PIC) by us on climb out prior to exceeding 2200 ft MSL when checking in with new york departure. We quickly returned to 2000 ft MSL as assigned by the SID while creating no traffic conflicts. ATC advised. Corrective/mitigating action: always thoroughly rebrief SID for runway change.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A LAST MIN CHANGE OF DEP RWY FROM TEB LEADS TO AN ALT OVERSHOOT.
Narrative: WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO CHANGE RWYS AT THE LAST MIN FROM RWY 6 AT TEB TO RWY 1 AND ULTIMATELY DEPARTED ON RWY 24. WE WERE GIVEN THE TEB 5 DEP FOR TKOF, BUT FAILED TO REPROGRAM FMS FOR RWY 24 DEP PRIOR TO TKOF. THE DEP CALLS FOR A CLB ULTIMATELY TO 2000 FT MSL FROM RWY 24 AND 3000 FT MSL FROM RWY 1. WE MISTAKENLY SET/LEFT 3000 FT IN THE ALT PRESELECTOR FOR A RWY 1 DEP. OUR MISTAKE WAS PROMPTLY CORRECTED (NOTICED BY PIC) BY US ON CLBOUT PRIOR TO EXCEEDING 2200 FT MSL WHEN CHKING IN WITH NEW YORK DEP. WE QUICKLY RETURNED TO 2000 FT MSL AS ASSIGNED BY THE SID WHILE CREATING NO TFC CONFLICTS. ATC ADVISED. CORRECTIVE/MITIGATING ACTION: ALWAYS THOROUGHLY REBRIEF SID FOR RWY CHANGE.
