Postflt inspection found access panel or #2 engine open at 6:00 O'clock position. Evidence of honeycomb damage to same engine on left side of engine in area of C duct. On short final of this flight, EICAS status message annunciated 'right engine fire detection #2.' EICAS message cleared itself prior to arriving to gate. Contract maintenance called to inspect engine confirmed damage to cowling.
