Narrative:
I was on a visual approach to runway 20C at nashville, tn (bna). Since this was my first time at this airport, I made certain I was lined up for the center runway. There was another aircraft landing on runway 31 and I was told to slow down early, which I did. About three miles from the runway, the tower instructed me to do a left 360 degree turn, and upon rollout, I was cleared to land on runway 20C. When I rolled out, I did not verify that I was again lined up for the center runway, and did not notice that the wind had drifted me toward runway 20R. About 20 ft above the runway, the tower asked if I was indeed landing on runway 20C, and I replied that I thought I was. Instead of going around, I landed, and on rollout, the tower told me I landed on runway 20R, and not on runway 20C as cleared. Looking back, I should have double checked that I was lined up for the center runway after the 360 degree turn, and especially after the tower asked again to verify the runway. My complacency and lack of familiarity with the airport were definitely contributing factors.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: PIPER PA31 CARGO PLT BECAME DISORIENTATED WHEN ROLLING OUT OF A 360 DEG TURN REQUESTED BY BNA TWR DURING FINAL CAUSING HIM TO LAND ON THE WRONG PARALLEL RWY.
Narrative: I WAS ON A VISUAL APCH TO RWY 20C AT NASHVILLE, TN (BNA). SINCE THIS WAS MY FIRST TIME AT THIS ARPT, I MADE CERTAIN I WAS LINED UP FOR THE CTR RWY. THERE WAS ANOTHER ACFT LNDG ON RWY 31 AND I WAS TOLD TO SLOW DOWN EARLY, WHICH I DID. ABOUT THREE MILES FROM THE RWY, THE TWR INSTRUCTED ME TO DO A L 360 DEG TURN, AND UPON ROLLOUT, I WAS CLRED TO LAND ON RWY 20C. WHEN I ROLLED OUT, I DID NOT VERIFY THAT I WAS AGAIN LINED UP FOR THE CTR RWY, AND DID NOT NOTICE THAT THE WIND HAD DRIFTED ME TOWARD RWY 20R. ABOUT 20 FT ABOVE THE RWY, THE TWR ASKED IF I WAS INDEED LNDG ON RWY 20C, AND I REPLIED THAT I THOUGHT I WAS. INSTEAD OF GOING AROUND, I LANDED, AND ON ROLLOUT, THE TWR TOLD ME I LANDED ON RWY 20R, AND NOT ON RWY 20C AS CLRED. LOOKING BACK, I SHOULD HAVE DOUBLE CHKED THAT I WAS LINED UP FOR THE CTR RWY AFTER THE 360 DEG TURN, AND ESPECIALLY AFTER THE TWR ASKED AGAIN TO VERIFY THE RWY. MY COMPLACENCY AND LACK OF FAMILIARITY WITH THE ARPT WERE DEFINITELY CONTRIBUTING FACTORS.
