Narrative:
Flight was VFR riverside municipal to visalia, ca, and return flight was made without refueling with the belief that aircraft carried 48 gals with 8 gals an hour usage. Training in gals per hours use was in australia. Apparently australian cessna 172's get more time per tank of fuel. Aircraft was on descent into ZZZ1 airport when engine cut out at 2600 ft MSL. PIC selected a street as safest landing strip. Landing was without incident. Police attended. Appointment made with CFI for 1 hour class in fuel management training.
