Narrative:

I was unfamiliar with abq and asked for and received progressive taxi instructions. The ground controller then instructed me to 'follow the beechcraft 200 from left to right to the runway.' I fell in behind the king air. Realizing I'd forgotten to set the departure frequency, I momentarily looked down to read the clearance information and did not notice the king air had taxied onto the active runway 21. I had maintained my normal taxi spacing, which put me over the runway markers behind and to the side of the king air. The tower told me to execute a 180 degree turn and get off the runway so they could clear the king air for takeoff. I was in error. Contributing factors included: cockpit distraction, 'follow that plane' instruction without a clear limit, unusual/angled runway alignment, markings which could be confused with displaced threshold.

Title: C441 PLT HAS RWY INCURSION AT ABQ.

Narrative: I WAS UNFAMILIAR WITH ABQ AND ASKED FOR AND RECEIVED PROGRESSIVE TAXI INSTRUCTIONS. THE GND CTLR THEN INSTRUCTED ME TO 'FOLLOW THE BEECHCRAFT 200 FROM L TO R TO THE RWY.' I FELL IN BEHIND THE KING AIR. REALIZING I'D FORGOTTEN TO SET THE DEP FREQ, I MOMENTARILY LOOKED DOWN TO READ THE CLRNC INFO AND DID NOT NOTICE THE KING AIR HAD TAXIED ONTO THE ACTIVE RWY 21. I HAD MAINTAINED MY NORMAL TAXI SPACING, WHICH PUT ME OVER THE RWY MARKERS BEHIND AND TO THE SIDE OF THE KING AIR. THE TWR TOLD ME TO EXECUTE A 180 DEG TURN AND GET OFF THE RWY SO THEY COULD CLR THE KING AIR FOR TKOF. I WAS IN ERROR. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS INCLUDED: COCKPIT DISTR, 'FOLLOW THAT PLANE' INSTRUCTION WITHOUT A CLR LIMIT, UNUSUAL/ANGLED RWY ALIGNMENT, MARKINGS WHICH COULD BE CONFUSED WITH DISPLACED THRESHOLD.
