Narrative:
I carried some hazmat material labeled infectious substance from ewr to tlv on oct/xa/02. Documentation provided no help as to what it was. Except to reference drill #6 and drill letter H indication -- fatal if inhaled or touched, could cause loss of pressurization/explosive and the effect on people was acute, but delayed. I asked the individual what the substance was and he didn't know. As per chief pilot, we only carry hazmat from preapproved vendors after sep/11 and the hazmat people aren't required to inspect the contents any more -- just sign and carry. Succumbed to management pressure and took hazmat without answering questions I had. Recommended improvements: if the captain wants to know something, just tell him. Support your pilots. Stop the circle of events to call the cpo on duty to force/pressure the captain and crew to do something they are uncomfortable with.
