Narrative:
While taxiing, we were cleared to taxi on runway 6 and to hold short of runway 30. While taxiing, we were told to 'stop' and informed that we crossed the hold short line. We did not intrude into the active runway. We wre not aware of canada's 'red side light' hold short markings. There was also a line that goes across the runway that we did not see. It would be great if there was conformity in the ICAO markings between the countries or be informed of differences during taxi. The tower knew we were unfamiliar with airport. Supplemental information from acn 564103: our taxi instructions were to taxi onto runway 6 and hold short of runway 30. I put my head down for just a few seconds to switch from ground frequency to tower frequency when the controller asked us to stop. The captain had taxied the aircraft across the runway 30 hold bars, which he had not noticed. I had been busy reading the taxi checklist and switching radio frequencys and did not notice them either. The captain's intentions were to hold short at the edge of runway 30 at the intersection of the 2 runways, as he would have done at a united states airport.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: RWY INCURSION WHEN AN A320 FLC IS CLRED TO TAXI ON RWY 6 AND CROSSES THE UNOBSERVED HOLD LINE AND UNFAMILIAR RED SIDE LIGHTS FOR RWY 30 AT CYHM, ONT.
Narrative: WHILE TAXIING, WE WERE CLRED TO TAXI ON RWY 6 AND TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 30. WHILE TAXIING, WE WERE TOLD TO 'STOP' AND INFORMED THAT WE CROSSED THE HOLD SHORT LINE. WE DID NOT INTRUDE INTO THE ACTIVE RWY. WE WRE NOT AWARE OF CANADA'S 'RED SIDE LIGHT' HOLD SHORT MARKINGS. THERE WAS ALSO A LINE THAT GOES ACROSS THE RWY THAT WE DID NOT SEE. IT WOULD BE GREAT IF THERE WAS CONFORMITY IN THE ICAO MARKINGS BTWN THE COUNTRIES OR BE INFORMED OF DIFFERENCES DURING TAXI. THE TWR KNEW WE WERE UNFAMILIAR WITH ARPT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 564103: OUR TAXI INSTRUCTIONS WERE TO TAXI ONTO RWY 6 AND HOLD SHORT OF RWY 30. I PUT MY HEAD DOWN FOR JUST A FEW SECONDS TO SWITCH FROM GND FREQ TO TWR FREQ WHEN THE CTLR ASKED US TO STOP. THE CAPT HAD TAXIED THE ACFT ACROSS THE RWY 30 HOLD BARS, WHICH HE HAD NOT NOTICED. I HAD BEEN BUSY READING THE TAXI CHKLIST AND SWITCHING RADIO FREQS AND DID NOT NOTICE THEM EITHER. THE CAPT'S INTENTIONS WERE TO HOLD SHORT AT THE EDGE OF RWY 30 AT THE INTXN OF THE 2 RWYS, AS HE WOULD HAVE DONE AT A UNITED STATES ARPT.
