Narrative:
While inspecting high stage valve in relation to an open valve indication in cockpit, left a rubber mallet on the engine just aft of the valve. Closed engine core cowl, and did not miss the mallet until the aircraft blocked out. Tried to contact the aircraft before takeoff, but was unsuccessful. After consultation between maintenance and flight crew, they decided to press on.
