Narrative:

ATIS advised that four runways were being used for arrs. In order to program our FMS for the procedure, we put in the runway we assumed we would get. However, when handed off to las approach, they issued a runway normally used for airliners. Before we could reprogram the FMS, we started on a heading for the wrong waypoint. Approach then issued us a heading. Ironically, our runway was then changed to the runway we originally assumed we would receive. FMS needs all the information for arrival procedures including the runway. Without the runway programmed, the procedure stops at the last common point.

Title: A CHANGE FROM THE PLANNED AND PROGRAMMED RWY FOR LAS VEGAS, NV RAISES THE WORKLOAD FOR A CPR JET CREW.

Narrative: ATIS ADVISED THAT FOUR RWYS WERE BEING USED FOR ARRS. IN ORDER TO PROGRAM OUR FMS FOR THE PROC, WE PUT IN THE RWY WE ASSUMED WE WOULD GET. HOWEVER, WHEN HANDED OFF TO LAS APCH, THEY ISSUED A RWY NORMALLY USED FOR AIRLINERS. BEFORE WE COULD REPROGRAM THE FMS, WE STARTED ON A HDG FOR THE WRONG WAYPOINT. APCH THEN ISSUED US A HDG. IRONICALLY, OUR RUNWAY WAS THEN CHANGED TO THE RUNWAY WE ORIGINALLY ASSUMED WE WOULD RECEIVE. FMS NEEDS ALL THE INFORMATION FOR ARR PROCS INCLUDING THE RWY. WITHOUT THE RUNWAY PROGRAMMED, THE PROC STOPS AT THE LAST COMMON POINT.
