Narrative:
Told to taxi to ice pad by ramp control. Entered, instructed by ground control at opposite end of pad. Trouble getting iceman frequency at pad. After deice, given signal by ground personnel to pull forward with waive off. As taxiing forward, confusion on correct ground control frequency. Pulled up to entry way of parallel taxiway, only to discover we were on an active taxiway. Charts for ice pad were not clear, lines on ground not visible due to sheen on ramp and light reflection. We were also extremely tired and that certainly was a factor.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AFTER COMPLETING DEICING, AN A320 AT DTW ENTERED A TXWY BEFORE CONTACTING GND CTL.
Narrative: TOLD TO TAXI TO ICE PAD BY RAMP CTL. ENTERED, INSTRUCTED BY GND CTL AT OPPOSITE END OF PAD. TROUBLE GETTING ICEMAN FREQ AT PAD. AFTER DEICE, GIVEN SIGNAL BY GND PERSONNEL TO PULL FORWARD WITH WAIVE OFF. AS TAXIING FORWARD, CONFUSION ON CORRECT GND CTL FREQ. PULLED UP TO ENTRY WAY OF PARALLEL TXWY, ONLY TO DISCOVER WE WERE ON AN ACTIVE TXWY. CHARTS FOR ICE PAD WERE NOT CLR, LINES ON GND NOT VISIBLE DUE TO SHEEN ON RAMP AND LIGHT REFLECTION. WE WERE ALSO EXTREMELY TIRED AND THAT CERTAINLY WAS A FACTOR.
