Narrative:
Moderate to severe turbulence during this time. 1 meal tray remained out in cabin. Turbulence severe enough for all crew to be strapped in jumpseats. Passenger's child became very frightened due to the bumping and rocking of aircraft. Parent picked up child to comfort her. His meal tray was very much in the way of child's kicking legs. He asked me to collect his tray. I answered from my jumpseat that I would as soon as safe. I felt a lull in the turbulence, jumped up, grabbed tray with left hand, held on west right. Ran into galley to shove tray in open cart. Held on to galley counter with right hand, knelt down to put tray away, turbulence began again severely. I lost balance, fell away from right side while still hanging on. Diagnosed with tear to right rotator cuff requiring surgery.
