Narrative:
We were instructed to vacate hold position at approach end of runway. Confirmed twice that we were cleared for position and hold. Noticed arriving aircraft on TCASII. Notified tower and tower issued go around clearance for approaching aircraft. I believe the situation was created by non standard clearance instructions. Supplemental information from acn 568942: air carrier X cleared onto hold runway 36R, beijing, china, with instructions 'vacate hold.' after 3 confirmations, we were cleared into position and hold and taxied onto the runway. We noticed an aircraft on short final via TCASII and notified tower. Tower issued go around instructions (in chinese) for aircraft on final. The situation was created by non standard clearance instructions, loss of situational awareness by tower, and heavy fog (tower could not see us).
