Narrative:
Approaching runway 28L for takeoff on runway 28R, a thump, which we in the cockpit concluded was the nosewheel passing over a rough spot or pavement break was felt. As we positioned for takeoff, the purser called. She had not noticed anything unusual, but she passed on a concern from 1 of the other flight attendants. We passed on our conclusion to her and thanked her for her input. The takeoff seemed normal in all respects from the cockpit, however, later flight attendants reported vibrations stronger than what they considered normal from the runway 5L and runway 5R flight attendant position, which was noted in the logbook. After further discussion with the purser, the landing was made with a 'cabin advisory' in effect. The landing was made using 30 degree flaps and autobrakes 2. A smooth landing was made followed by a normal rollout, with the exception of transient vibrations slowing through about 140 KTS and 90 KTS. No smoke or other abnormal conditions were reported by ground control or the flight attendants. Upon arrival at the gate, maintenance confirmed the failure of the #5 tire.

Title: B747-400 CREW HAD A MAIN GEAR TIRE FAILURE JUST BEFORE TKOF.
Narrative: APCHING RWY 28L FOR TKOF ON RWY 28R, A THUMP, WHICH WE IN THE COCKPIT CONCLUDED WAS THE NOSEWHEEL PASSING OVER A ROUGH SPOT OR PAVEMENT BREAK WAS FELT. AS WE POSITIONED FOR TKOF, THE PURSER CALLED. SHE HAD NOT NOTICED ANYTHING UNUSUAL, BUT SHE PASSED ON A CONCERN FROM 1 OF THE OTHER FLT ATTENDANTS. WE PASSED ON OUR CONCLUSION TO HER AND THANKED HER FOR HER INPUT. THE TKOF SEEMED NORMAL IN ALL RESPECTS FROM THE COCKPIT, HOWEVER, LATER FLT ATTENDANTS RPTED VIBRATIONS STRONGER THAN WHAT THEY CONSIDERED NORMAL FROM THE RWY 5L AND RWY 5R FLT ATTENDANT POS, WHICH WAS NOTED IN THE LOGBOOK. AFTER FURTHER DISCUSSION WITH THE PURSER, THE LNDG WAS MADE WITH A 'CABIN ADVISORY' IN EFFECT. THE LNDG WAS MADE USING 30 DEG FLAPS AND AUTOBRAKES 2. A SMOOTH LNDG WAS MADE FOLLOWED BY A NORMAL ROLLOUT, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF TRANSIENT VIBRATIONS SLOWING THROUGH ABOUT 140 KTS AND 90 KTS. NO SMOKE OR OTHER ABNORMAL CONDITIONS WERE RPTED BY GND CTL OR THE FLT ATTENDANTS. UPON ARR AT THE GATE, MAINT CONFIRMED THE FAILURE OF THE #5 TIRE.
