Narrative:
Open cabin maintenance item. Checked logbook in mia and inbound crew wrote up item, 'vcr inoperative.' I spoke with #1 flight attendant that vcr may be inoperative and plan a manual brief, and he said he talked with a mechanic about the vcr. A mechanic returned the logbook to the cockpit and said he had signed it off. He signed off check but not the item. With the rush to get the full flight out on time, I failed to make the final check of the logbook and we departed with the item open. The item was signed off.
