Narrative:

I was transitioning teb at 1500 ft wbound. When they terminated, I called cdw tower advising '7 mi east inbound with ATIS said 'enter right downwind for runway 4.' exactly what I expected. As I flew it, controller questions 'my number, say position.' reply '2/3 of the way down the right downwind runway 4.' he clears me to land. I turn base, then final. Controller says (excitedly) 'who is that on final?' reply 'my n-number, final runway 4.' controller says 'if I had known you were coming from the right side, I would not have cleared you!' this is not something a controller should say -- it's his job to know what he's doing, and where I am -- he's the one who directed me there.
