Narrative:
We were beginning our descent into burlington, vt, airport. We had picked up the ATIS and the first officer noted the altimeter setting was 29.22 inches. We both discussed this and said it sounded lower than normal. We were handed off to ZBW, I was given an altimeter setting of 30.22 inches, which the first officer read back with no correction from the controller. We were then handed off to btv approach and was given a descent to 7000 ft. ATC asked us our altitude, and we responded 7000 ft. He then asked us our altimeter setting, and we stated 30.22 inches. He then corrected us to say it was 29.22 inches. We corrected the setting and climbed to 7000 ft, since due to our error on the altimeter setting, we were actually at 6000 ft. I normally always xchk the ATIS altimeter settings with what is given by ATC, but unfortunately did not doublechked with the controller when given a different setting. Thankfully, the mistake was uneventful. I certainly take responsibility for our part in the error. It would have been helpful if btv approach has given us a current altimeter setting on our initial call and should have noticed our 1000 ft altitude difference when we checked in with our altitude reading. Also, if we did read back an incorrect altimeter setting with ZBW, it would have been good if he caught it, but we both believe we heard 30.22 inches from ZBW.

Title: CL65 FLT CREW HAS WRONG ALTIMETER SET AND DSNDS 1000 FT BELOW ASSIGNED ALT.
